A long Post but worth the read

Sacrament was really wonderful today. Kevin was super tired and showing no signs of going to sleep as he played on my lap. I started to bounce him on my knee and about two minutes later I look down and his head was drooped to the side and his arms limp. He had not had a nap yet that morning and I really didn't want to ruin his chances of a good rest time so I decided I needed to go home and put him in his pack and play (we are in St. George at my parent's house). Then I had a prompting to wait at least until sacrament meeting was over and that all would work out with his nap.
The High Councilman, Brother Madsen, spoke about The Scriptures. He spoke about the amazing gift they are in our lives. We have them right in our homes to feast upon. They are the actual word of God. He spoke strongly of how scriptures have changed his life and of how blessed he feels because of them. Then he opened them up and unfolded amazing doctrine through an analogy. He read a passage in Alma 37: 38-47. It made so much sense to me. I will put a few exerpts in so you understand what it says.
our fathers called it a Liahona, which is, being interpreted, a compass; and the Lord prepared it. And behold, it was prepared to show unto our fathers the course which they should travel in the wilderness. And it did work for them according to their faith in God; therefore, if they had faith to believe that God could cause that those spindles should point the way they should go, behold, it was done; therefore they had this miracle, and also many other miracles wrought by the power of God, day by day. Nevertheless, because those miracles were worked by small means it did show unto them marvelous works. They were slothful, and forgot to exercise their faith and diligence and then those marvelous works ceased, and they did not progress in their journey. Therefore, they tarried in the wilderness, or did not travel a direct course, and were afflicted with hunger and thirst, because of their transgressions. And now, my son, I would that ye should understand that these things are not without a shadow;(or in other words there is another meaning also) for as our fathers were slothful to give heed to this compass (now these things were temporal) they did not prosper; even so it is with things which are spiritual. (if we forget to exercise oru faith and diligence in Christ because we see the scriptures as "small means" then we too will NOT travel in a directg course). For behold, it is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ, which will point to you a straight course to eternal bliss, as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass, which would point unto them a straight course to the promised land. For just as surely as this director did bring our fathers, by following its course, to the promised land, (so) shall the words of Christ, if we follow their course, carry us beyond this vale of sorrow into a far better land of promise. O my son, do not let us be slothful because of the easiness of the way; for so was it with our fathers; for so was it prepared for them, that if they would look they might live; even so it is with us. The way is prepared, and if we will look we may live forever. And now, my son, see that ye take care of these sacred things, yea, see that ye look to God and live.
It is as easy to give heed to the word of Christ as it was for our fathers to give heed to this compass. His word... which will point you a straight course to eternal bliss, is so wonderfully provided in form of 5 standard works and also the Ensign and we hear it also each time we go to church. With the spirit I felt today I have a renewed sense of direction which I do not wish to let go because of the "easiness of the way".
I love the Lord and I need him in my life. I am so grateful that I stayed to hear such wonderful words spoken but a simple High Councilman who probably had no idea he touched my heart with such impact. I don't know about you but I am guessing that we all want to return to our Heavenly Father and we don't prefer a life of wandering aimlessly and never getting to our "Promised Land". I will use my "Liahona" (the scriptures) in order to have my rest in the next life.

Thanks Ash...such is the spirit of my day today. We talked a lot about receiving direction from the Holy Ghost today in Relief Society. Something I really needed to hear. Neil and I are also having the great debate about buying a home and what the Lord would have us do. Thanks for passing on that great lesson! It was something that I needed to hear today!......By the way, you were supposed to call me the next time you came down so you could cut my hair...next time!
